Do you know how much it means to people to hear the words, I love you, I appreciate you, I am grateful for you, you're the best, you're a legend? Well, it does. I know this because it feels so good when I share these words with others I love and appreciate in my world - personally and professionally so I can only imagine how they feel when they receive it. I certainly know when someone takes the time to tell me what I mean to them, it melts my heart every time.
Life can get busy, which means we often leave positive praise for people until the typical milestone moments (birthdays, gifts, helpful gestures, etc). But when you seize a random inspired moment to tell someone, show someone, do something for someone, to let them know you appreciate them, it's a beautiful thing that is generous beyond measure and doesn't cost you nearly anything in time or (usually) money.
Here's 5 simple ways to share the love.
- Send a Message
Randomly send text messages to friends / loved ones, to let them know you are thinking of them and what they mean to you. A few short meaningful words or a loving line or two, could seriously make someone's day, week, month or year.
- Give Flowers
Honestly, I love getting flowers. They bring an endless smile to my face whenever someone buys them for me. I literally think good thoughts about that person every single time I look at those flowers! Pick up a bunch next time you do a supermarket run, send a special delivery or even hand pick (not from someone else's garden!) flowers to surprise someone who rocks your world.
- Post a Card
We don't receive snail trail much these days (well, except for bills, junk mail and the like), so walking to your letterbox and noticing a special card or hand-written note of love and kind thoughts from someone you care about, will be a special unexpected treat.
- Tell Them
One common reason for relationship breakdowns is the lack of communication - or should I say, useful, positive communication. We can get so caught up in the everyday with our everyday people - work colleagues, kids, partners, etc, that we often forget to tell them how much they mean to our world. A daily, or at least weekly, positive feedback moment to tell the people in your world how they rock your world, will enhance the positivity in their greater world.
- Leave a Love Note
A great way to leave a smile on someone's face is to leave kind, thoughtful, praise filled, love note words for those you love. You can leave this in their sock draw, the bathroom cabinet, under their pillow or serviette at dinner time. Such a sweet treat they will enjoy.
Whether you use my simple ideas to spread a little positive cheer to your wider spread community or use it to inspire you to create your own ways to 'say the love', make 2018 the year you shared more of the positive thoughts on your mind.
PS - And remember the golden rule of 'giving' - don't give to get. Whether someone says thank you or not to honour your sweet gestures of praise, is not the focus of the giving.
